Acting

Alan made his first appearances on stage with a local community theatre group in the Beach called the Main Attraction Theatre Company. From there he went on to study acting at George Brown College where he met Acting Coach James Howard. Alan left George Brown to study with James for three years while continuing acting on stage.

While performing at Toronto's Fringe Festival, Alan met Actor and Playwright Bill Hackenbrook. Soon after, Bill and Alan wrote their own play "Baggage and Illusions". The play was featured at the Vancouver Fringe Festival and was then performed in Toronto. The two have continued to collaborate successfully with Alan playing the lead in Bill's play "Conditions" which was directed by Katherine Delory and recently published through Samuel French.

Some film credits include: "Stuck in Paradise", a short film adapted from Hackenbrook's play of the same name and directed by Felice Gorica; and "The Behaviour of Houses", a full length feature film, written by Michael Plato and directed by David Scott.

Alan has acted in many television commercials and most recently he appeared in a docudrama for the Discovery Channel titled "Lost". He portrayed an Air Traffic Controller in a true story about a tragic plane crash in Columbia, South America.

In the summer of 2005, Alan was thrilled to be part of the amazing cast and crew of "Sara's Cave", a beautifully written and performed play about a Polish woman hiding a Jewish family in her root cellar at the same time as she is made to house two German officers. It was performed in the Heritage Theatre in Brampton as part of the New Works Playwright Festival. It was reviewed in the Brampton Guardian Newspaper on July 27, 2005. READ REVIEW.

Alan was also part of the 2005 Summerworks Festival in "Desperate Housepets" a cheeky comedy written by Robert Watson and directed by Andrew Lamb.  The play was well received by theatre goers and critics and it gave us a chance to see Alan back in a comedic role again. Congrats go out to the cast and crew for putting together a fine production that packed the house every night.

2004 was a busy year for Alan's theatre career. In the spring Alan played the role of Franz, a Nazi Officer in "The Secret of Gabi's Dresser" written by Kathy Kacer and directed by Mark Cassidy. The play is the first Canadian holocaust drama for children. It was reviewed in the Toronto Star READ REVIEW. Alan will be reprising his role of Franz when "The Secret of Gabi's Dresser" is revived in November 2005. In the summer of 2004 Alan played the Cobbler and The Man in the Moon in "The Garden Behind The Moon", a musical based on the book by author Howard Pyle and directed by Terrie M. Robinson. In the late fall, Alan performed as Guildenstern in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" directed by Andrew Lamb READ REVIEW.

Alan performed again in "Desperate Housepets" as part of the Montreal Fringe Festival and then in The Toronto Fringe Festival in the summer of 2006. The production was chosen to go on as part of "Best of the Fringe" in Toronto. It received rave reviews.
